Bringing together cinema, design, and the best of British creative excellence, last night the National Gallery laid host to a one-night-only fashion moment to celebrate the theatrical release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 (releasing in cinemas 1st May).
The event paid tribute to the enduring influence of The Devil Wears Prada franchise in both fashion and popular culture with leading British designers showcasing looks inspired by the film’s iconic aesthetic. The designers were all hand selected by the film’s Costume Designer Molly Rogers, including Vivienne Westwood, Roksanda, Stella McCartney, Richard Quinn, Harris Reed, Jenny Packham, 16 Arlington, ASHISH, Dilara Findikoglu and Zandra Rhodes with each look showcasing the beauty and craftsmanship of the designers.
Parting the sea of guests and posing on plinths throughout the gallery space, models showcased the designs, becoming works of art themselves, allowing onlookers to admire the detail, artistry and beauty of each piece. The display was curated to provide a moment to celebrate of the partnership between iconic British fashion designers and Costume Designer Molly Rogers for the upcoming film, with many of the featured designers having contributed to the highly anticipated film.
Laura Weir, CEO of British Fashion Council commented, “The world of The Devil Wears Prada may be set in New York, but its sharpest edge is undeniably influenced by British fashion, its wit, its tailoring, and its fearless point of view. British designers have long played a vital role in shaping the visual language of cinema, and this moment at the National Gallery perfectly captured the powerful intersection of British fashion, film and creative expression.”
Costume Designer Molly Rogers reflected, “Fashion is a powerful storytelling tool in film, and collaborating with British designers on this film has been fantastic. The display this evening was a celebration of their creativity and craftsmanship and the role they play in shaping characters on screen.”

Twenty years after making their iconic turns as Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel - Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return to the fashionable streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway magazine in the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2006 phenomenon that defined a generation.
The film reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna, and introduces an all-new runway of characters including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, and B.J. Novak. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles as “Lily” and “Irv” from the first film.
