Tuesday 30 June, 2026. The world of Disney’s “Moana” live-action burst to life in London today as movie stars Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Lagaʻaia attended the opening of an immersive Moana Experience at Potters Fields Park on the shores of the River Thames. Also in attendance was “Moana” Director Thomas Kail and Executive Producer Auliʻi Cravalho, and hosted by actress and TV presenter, Molly Rainford, and radio DJ and TV presenter, Tyler West. Much to the delight of the Moana Experience ticket holders, Johnson and Lagaʻaia posed for photos and interactions with fans.
School children from St Gregory’s School in Colchester were invited to attend the “Moana” Experience as a surprise. The school group thought they were going on a typical school trip until the moment they arrived. The group at St Gregory’s went viral on social media after posting a video on TikTok asking Dwayne Johnson to comment on their video. Johnsons replied to the school via video, and that same group of students came to the experience and met their acting idol.
The “Moana” Experience centred around a giant replica of Maui’s 6 metre hook alongside a breathtaking recreation of Moana’s canoe. The Pacific paradise played host to a magical array of authentic dance, drum and vocal performances of beloved “Moana” songs, before the stars of the new live-action movie made their surprise entrance.
Over 20 dancers from the London School of Hula and Ori performed a specially choreographed version of We Know The Way to their own Tahitian drum backline which added to the Pacific atmosphere. The event also featured two very special performances from the Disney Theatre Group featuring stars of the “Hercules” and “The Lion King” West End shows, who performed hits How Far I’ll Go and You’re Welcome.
The spectacular launch event marked the opening of the day-long “Moana” Experience which saw the iconic 10,000 square foot London location transformed into a Motunui paradise, including an array of activities from Pua inspired pig petting to karaoke, lei making workshops and “Moana”-themed food and drink provided by Honi Poke and Vita Coco.
Thousands of families were due to attend the one-day “Moana” Experience, which celebrates the launch of the “Moana” live-action reimagining sailing into cinemas on 10 July, 2026.
