DISNEY REIGNS AT THE UK & IRELAND AND GLOBAL BOX OFFICE AS THE NUMBER 1 DISTRIBUTOR IN 2024
A STUNNING FINALE TO AN EXCEPTIONAL YEAR, WITH MUFASA: THE LION KING DELIVERING THE CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT BY CLAIMING THE NUMBER 1 SPOT OVER CHRISTMAS
Disney dominated the box office for the year. In the UK having the top two titles of the year; Inside Out 2 led the charge as highest grossing UK film of the year with £59.2M ($1.7B globally), while Deadpool & Wolverine followed a close second with £57.6M at the UK box office ($1.34B globally).
Moana 2 (still on release) is also in the top 10 in the UK, sitting at number six and amassing £36.4M at the UK box office ($906M globally) before the close of 2024. Other films contributing to this achievement in the UK include Mufasa: The Lion King (still on release) 17.4M at the UK box office ($365M global to date), Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 15.7M at the UK box office ($398M global) and Alien: Romulus 13.4M at the UK box office ($351M global).
This result crowns an extraordinary year for the studio, concluding on a high note with its final 2024 release. Mufasa: The Lion King, debuting 30 years after the original, claimed the number 1 spot over the Christmas holiday, solidifying The Walt Disney Company’s position as the number 1 distributor in the UK & Ireland and globally. This achievement not only reinforces Disney's incredible legacy but also cements its enduring reign at the box office, as the franchise continues to stand the test of time and make a roaring impact on audiences worldwide.

- Mufasa: The Lion King dominated the Christmas box office in the UK & Ireland by claiming the top spot during the festive week with its strongest day on Christmas Eve, and led at the box office for a second successive (3-Day) weekend
